OVERVIEW
 

The basic scaffolding training course aims to provide participants with the opportunity to become competent in applying the skills, knowledge, and attitudes associated with the safe erection and dismantling of scaffolding systems. It teaches the core skills of scaffolding and covers how to erect, alter, and dismantle scaffolding structures safely.

 
TARGET AUDIENCE
 

This course is designed for scaffolders who need to safely erect simple or complex scaffolding structures.

 
PREREQUISITES
 
  • Not less than 21 years of age
  • Medical Fitness
  • Should not have a fear of heights
  • Ability to climb scaffolding ladders up and down

COURSE OBJECTIVES
 

By the end of the session, successful delegates will be able to:

  • Identify the requirements and faults in scaffolding materials.
  • Determine the material requirements for freestanding tower and birdcage structures.
  • Interpret simple drawings.
  • Outline the fundamental principles of scaffolding.
  • Understand the basics of ties.
  • Safely erect independent, tower and birdcage scaffolding using tube fittings, or systems
  • Make alterations to scaffolding structures.
 
COURSE OUTLINE
 This course is delivered over 3 days
Day 1: Classroom training   
Day 2: Classroom and practical
Day 3: Practical assessments and theory assessment

  • Reference Standards and Guidelines
  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Scaffolding Hazards
  • Systems of Scaffold
  • Material Familiarization: Types, Requirements, and Faults
  • Scaffolding Terminology and Requirements
  • Step-by-step procedure to erect scaffolding
  • Step-by-step procedure to dismantle scaffolding
  • Basic Design Familiarization
  • Safety Requirements during scaffolding erection, alteration, and dismantling.
  • Theory Assessment

Practical Units

  • Static Tower (2 lifts, including foot tie), and/or
  • Nine Standard Birdcage Scaffolds (Two lifts, including foot tie) and/or
  • Independent scaffolding (with return)
