OVERVIEW

The Highfield Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). In this course, participants will acquire vital life-saving skills and learn how to administer CPR, operate an AED, and respond confidently during life-threatening emergencies. This certification is not only valuable in healthcare and first responder roles but is also essential for teachers, coaches, and community leaders. Learners gaining this qualification will know that cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillation form an essential part of the chain of survival.

PRE-REQUISITES

There are no specific entry requirements for this qualification, however, learners are advised to have a minimum of level 1 literacy. There is no specific age restriction for this qualification but ensure they can effectively perform CPR before registration.

COURSE OUTLINE
  • Introduction to Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Recognizing and assessing a casualty
  • Perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) techniques.
  • Safety considerations in the Use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs)
  • How to place an unresponsive casualty in the recovery position
  • Dealing with different age groups (e.g., adults, children, infants)
  • Hands-on practical training and assessment
 
ASSESSMENT

Practical demonstration and multiple-choice theory assessment  

Practical observation

The practical assessment is completed throughout the course delivery.

This ongoing assessment requires learners to demonstrate practical basic life support skills.

 Multiple-choice theory assessment

Learners are required to pass a 5-question multiple-choice theory paper.

To be successful, all questions must be answered
